POSTPONED! AKC Seminar: The potential of mitochondrial-therapeutics for treating muscle weakness in Duchenne muscular dystrophy

POSTPONED!

We regret to inform that the AKC seminar on 20 March with Assoc. Prof. Christopher Perry has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The seminar will be rescheduled for later this year. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

August Krogh Club Seminar

Associate Professor Christopher Perry

Abstract

Mitochondrial impairments are present in many muscle weakness disorders. The degree to which emerging mitochondrial-targeting compounds can restore bioenergetics and improve muscle function in myopathies is unclear. This presentation will provide new unpublished evidence that certain ‘mitochondrial-therapeutics’ partially correct this relationship in a model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The findings demonstrate that the relationship between mitochondrial bioenergetics and muscle weakness appears to be unique in different muscle types through mechanisms that remain unknown.
