Abstract
Mitochondrial impairments are present in many muscle weakness disorders. The degree to which emerging mitochondrial-targeting compounds can restore bioenergetics and improve muscle function in myopathies is unclear. This presentation will provide new unpublished evidence that certain ‘mitochondrial-therapeutics’ partially correct this relationship in a model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The findings demonstrate that the relationship between mitochondrial bioenergetics and muscle weakness appears to be unique in different muscle types through mechanisms that remain unknown.
